Question: After a pastor-parish relations committee member has compelted a three-year term, can she immediately serve another three-year term?
Answer: Yes. According to ¶ 258.2 b) of the 2008 Book of Discipline, "In order to secure experience and stability, the membership shall be divided into three classes, one of which shall be elected each year for a three-year term. The lay member of the annual conference and the lay leader are exempt from the three-year term...Members of the committee shall be able to succeed themselves for one three-year term....."
The charge conference can set term limits for any of the elected or appointed officers of the church. In ¶ 247.7, the Book of Discipline recommends that "no officer serve more than three consecutive years in the same office."
